Buhari Ministerial Nominees: DSS conducts background checks on Femi Falana, Festus Odimegwu, Pat Utomi, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and others

In what looks like final preparations toward the release of Federal Executive Cabinet before by the end of this month deadline set by President Muhammad Buhari during a press address in Ghana some weeks back, feelers from the Department of State Security Service (DSSS) revealed that the agency is conducting extensive background checks on some notable technocrats and politicians for ministerial nominees.

Among others, the agency is looking at the financial dealings of the ministerial hopeful nominees as well as their records with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Nigeria Police.
Human Rights Crusader, Femi Falana
Already, speculations are rife that the DSSS had conducted its foundation checks on human rights crusader and Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana who is rumoured to be the candidates of founding Chairman of All Progressive Party (APC) and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a National Leader of APC for Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.

Another ministerial nominee is the former Presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress and renowned Professor of Economics, Pat Utomi who is believed to be the choice for Ministry of Economic Planning. Utomi is likely to make the list this time around though his name and other technocrats had been promoted in the past only to be absent in the final lists. This was the case during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

Others candidates who were said to have been equally screened are the former Governor of Osun State Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Lagos State Commissioner of Finance during the governorship reigns of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wale Edun who is expected to manage the portfolio of Ministry of Finance, former Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Ltd, Festus Odimegwu, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Abdurahman Dambazu (rtd), ex-Chief Executive of Federal Inland Revenue, Mrs. Itueko Omoigui-okanu and Abubarkar Malami (SAN) among others.
