Senator Chukwumeriji Died of Lung Cancer at 75

Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Upper legislative assembly, Uche Chukwumerije died in a Turkish hospital, Abuja on Sunday 19, 2015 after a protracted battle with lung cancer.

The high ranking, three term senator and former Information Minister during military regime of Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida is highly referred among his fellow legislature for his insightful contributions to the plenary session in the upper chamber. Chukwumerije was born November, 1939.

 In a statement read by Chidi Chukwumerije on behalf of other family members titled, “the passing of an inspirational icon” The statement disclosed that the late senator died surrounded by his family members at exactly 4.30pm on Sunday.

The burial ceremony arrangement for the senator that would be remembered for his role as the Nigeria’s Information Minister during June 12 imbroglio by the  pro-democracy groups will soon be  made public by the family.
