The
Presidency through a statement released on Sunday, April 20, 2015 by its
Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Reuben Abati said he never spent 2trn naira during
the 2015 elections nor set up an audit committee to probe disbursement of funds
by party officials across the country.
Abati
who was reacting to a publication credited to Sunday Punch April 19th,2015
titled; Jonathan Demands 2trn Election Funds Refunds alleged that the President
had constituted an audit panel to the conduct an audit of how funds were spent
during the elections.
“The
report is mischievous, false and embarrassing” he said. “With a total budget of
N4trn plus the story suggested the President and People Democratic Party (PDP)
spent half of the federal budget on this year’s elections” Abati pointed out.
“This insinuation was meant to incite the
public and instigate a national crisis” Abati affirmed.
Speaking
further, Abati also refuted another claim by the same newspaper publication that
President Goodluck Jonathan (GCFR) had set up a committee to conduct an audit
of the election funds disbursement by party members and state officials.
