Mokola-Ojo road blocked by UI Students over the death of their colleague

The death of a 200 Level student of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Mayowa Alaran at the university’s health centre, known within the campus as Jaja sparked-off a total disruption of business activities and vehicular movement around the university on Thursday, May 7, 2015.

Alaran, an asthmatic patient allegedly collapsed on Wednesday night during the semi-final first leg of UEFA Champions League match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich that ended 3-0 inside Independent Hall’s common room.

All efforts by his colleagues to resuscitate him proved abortive before he was taken to the health centre where he later died due lack of medical attention by health personnel on duty and non-availability of ambulance to convey Alaran to University College Hospital (UCH).

Early in the morning on Thursday, the rampaging students enraged by the conduct of the Jaja personnel that led to Alaran’s untimely death which they said has become habitual practice of staff at the health centre, the students locked the institution’s gate as well blocked off Mokola-Ojo road causing serious traffic gridlock.
