The latest report on the
issue of African and Arab Immigrants influx to Europe is the possibility of 700
deaths in boat misfortune that has occurred in the area close Lampedusa, Italy.
The Mediterranean Sea
has been busy with overloaded boat and rickety ship carrying immigrants fleeing
hardship in their home countries for sometimes now and disturbing reports of migrants
experiences on the high sea published.
The boat that is most
likely to be carrying African and Arab fleeing civil strife and poverty in the
north and north eastern part of Africa as well as Syria, Iraq and Libya. Good
weather has also been fingered as instigating factor.
Unlike these ones, many
migrants who were lucky to be rescued or arrived safely at the Sicily and other
Italian or Greek ports have many harrowing and upsetting stories to tell.
Some others had drown as
it has happen today and last week in which more than 100 other immigrants died
when the overloaded boat they were traveling capsized also.
In another worrisome
account of co-travelers, 15 Muslim Immigrants were reported to have their
fellow travelers, 12 of them who were Christian off board. Though they were
later rescued and brought on board their fate and state of health afterwards is
unknown.
Sometimes the migrants
are made slaves and become captives of tour operators and their (human)
traffickers who grossly exploit their situation and abuse their rights.
The plight of the immigrants
and the humanitarian crisis that may be tickling came into the open last week when
Italian Government through the Foreign Minister, Pao Gentiloni called for the
support of the European Union in tackling the unending influx of African and
Arab Immigrants into Italy ports.
