was historic in the state of South Carolina as it marked the official removal
and lowering of the controversial Confederate Flag from the Statehouse ground.
Removing the
Confederate Flag had been at the centre of a serious and controversial political
horse trading until the Charleston church shooting on the June 17, this year. The
shooting led to the butchery of nine black parishioners including a state
senator during a Bible study.

The call for the removal of
the flag reverberated and became a rebellious symbol when the white man, Dylann
Roof charged for the shooting and deaths at the Charleston and authorities have
called the killings of hate crime was photographed with the Confederate Flag. Thus
amplifying the agitation for the removal of the Confederate flags and symbols
across the South as well as throughout the United States.

Press (AP) reported that crowd at the event chanted "USA" and
"hey, hey, hey, goodbye" as the flag was swiftly lowered by an honor
guard of South Carolina troopers during a 6-minute ceremony. Gov. Nikki Haley
stood on the Statehouse steps. Though, the Republican governor did not speak,
she nodded and smiled in the direction of the crowd after someone shouted:
"Thank you governor."
