Just as she shot into global limelight in 1999 in a dramatic
way, Serena was today beaten by world number 43 player, 33 year-old Roberta
Vinci in their semi-final encounter in the on-going US Open.
The match ended, 2-6, 6-4 & 6-4 in favour of Roberta
Vinci making spectators speechless and dumbfounded. The sterling performance of
the Italian, an underdog who has never reached a quarter final in her lawn
tennis career dealt a major blow to Williams dream.
Tennis enthusiasts and fans of Serena Williams had thought the exit of her sister,
Venus removed the major obstacle towards achieving her desire of becoming
another four Opens winner in one year after Steffi Graff of Germany.

Serena Williams work hard to ensure she put her name in the
tennis hall of honour like Steffi Graf and other great tennis players but that
was not to be as Roberta Vinci truncated that ambition of Serena Williams. What
a loss. She was reported to have left the area 30minutes after she lost the match.
Serena Williams was sober and in tears, mourning her
unexpected loss during a press chat she did after the dream shattering match. No one in his/her wildest imagination would
have thought Serena will not reach the final of the US Open talkless of being
beaten by Roberta Vinci.
The final will be played of the women tennis at US Open on Saturday
and will feature two Italians women ,Robberta
and Pennetta who beats the world number, Halep .
