The
rumours making round on the impending sacking of the security authorities came to
a reality Monday when the President Muhammed Buhari has replaced his Service Chiefs.
A
statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr.
Femi Adesina during a briefing with State House correspondents on Monday said
the President has relieved all the service chiefs of their appointments. New
appointments have been made that include:
1. Maj.-Gen. Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin: Chief of Defence Staff
2. Maj.-Gen. T.Y. Buratai: Chief of Army Staff
3. Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas: Chief of Naval Staff
4. Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar: Chief of Air Staff
5. Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan: Chief of Defence

6. Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd.):National Security Adviser (NSA)
While
appreciating the replaced Service Chiefs and NSA services to the nation, the
President according Adesina wished them success in their future endeavours. The
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity added further that the newly
appointed Service Chiefs and NSA until confirmed as substantive Service Chiefs
and Security Adviser by the National Assembly will hold their positions in acting capacity.
At
a meeting held shortly after the announcement of the new Service Chiefs and
Security Advisers, the President urged them to work for the restoration
of the Armed Forces reputation and that of the nation.

Reacting
to the news, security experts hinged the replacement of the Service Chiefs to
the unsatisfactory handling of the Boko Haram insurgency and the renewed
attacks and escalation of terror by Boko Haram in recently that had resulted in
the killing of over 500 hapless Nigerians less than four weeks since receiving
the mantle of leadership by the President.
