Apparently
in response to the last minute looting accusation raised by the All Progressive
Congress, President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the release of the
controversial Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation forensic audit report
conducted by PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) last year.
The
President who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr.
Reuben Abati equally denied the allegations of last minute looting by his aides
and kitchen cabinet. President Jonathan said he had nothing to hide.
Abati also refuted the report in the media concerning the recall of the Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa saying Nigeria does not have a High Commissioner in that county but Charge de' Affair.
He disclosed that the Ambassador Uche Ajulu-Okeke was called back to Nigeria for proper consultation and not a diplomatic backlash to the xenophobic violence in the country.
The
auditing of the national corporation’s past financial dealings were conducted last
year to ascertain the veracity of the claims
by the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi who had some
months back accused the NNPC Management of diverting $20billion of oil revenue.
Since
conclusion and submission of the said report last year, the full details has
been shrouded in secrecy. More so, the $1.8billion purportedly declared was misappropriated
by the auditing firm is a far cry from Sanusi’s alleged $20billion. Similarly, Sanusi’s
predecessor, Charles Soludo has also raised allegation of financial mismanagement
and recklessness on the part of NNPC management.
This
last minute release order is seen by social commentators and political events
watchers as reaction to the statements coming from the camp of the President-elect
and his party, APC. Lately, the President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari has expressed
interest in revisiting the matter when he assumes office as the President of Federal
Republic of Nigeria on May 29.
