Less
than nine months to his appointment as substantive inspector General of Nigeria
Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba with immediate effect has been relieved of his job by
President Goodluck Jonathan.
He
has been replaced by Solomon Arase, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP)
who until his appointment as the acting IGP was the Head of the Force Criminal
Intelligence and Investigation Department.
According
to a statement by Dr. Reuben Abati,
Presidency Special Adviser on Media, Arase holds bachelors and masters degrees
in Law as well as Masters in Political Science and Strategic Studies. He is
also a fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.
Suleiman
Abba was in charge of Zone 7 before he took over July 31, 2014 from Muhammed
Abubakar who retired last year after 35 years in service.
Though, details of his replacement are still sketchy but Aso Rock politics watchers said it may not be unconnected with the professionalism displayed by the Force Headquarters during the March 28th, 2015 presidential election.
Many
social commenters and political analysts before now had predicted head rolling
at the Force Headquarters and some critical institutions in the country a fallout
of the dismal performance of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general
elections.
