Contrary
to speculations, the President of Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju
Pinnick has renewed Stephen Keshi contract as Super Eagles technical handler on
Tuesday, 21 April, 2015. The dotted lines were signed in Abuja for two year
contract after about nine months of stalling and under hand dealings.
The
signing of the contract papers laid to speculations going around on perceived
disinterestedness of the NFF executive to engage Keshi for another years of
coaching contract. There were strong indications of frost relationship between
Keshi and NFF boss Amadu Pinnick who rumoured may be plotting and delaying the
signing of Steven Okey Chukwu Keshi for another coaching career with the
national team till the expiration of the President Goodluck Jonathan’s
administration. The rumour because strong when contract renewal signing event slated
for Friday, May 16th,2015 did not take place as Amaju was said to
have traveled to Europe.
This
insinuations and speculations is stemming from apparent Amaju’s lack of
confidence and faith in the in-depth ability of the Nigerian coaches to deliver
on the technicality of coaching the Nigerian senior team.
The
speculation became rife that Amaju is not favourably disposed Keshi’s contract renewal
based on statement credited to him that if he had to go borrowing, he will hire
a foreign coach. Some other Nigerians have also expressed concerns about Keshi’s
plight and his lack of flexibility making him it difficult to shift ground most
times or apologize.
Throughout
the contract signing delay, Keshi fans were looking forward to President
Goodluck Jonathan who is a big fan of Keshi and has saved his job in most
crucial times in the past to do the same again before he leaves office on May
29, 2015.
