To mark the end of the 30 day-long fasting period of the Ramadan
by the Islamic faithful in Nigeria, the federal government on Tuesday in Abuja announced
Friday, July 17 and Monday, July 20,
2015 as public holidays to mark the end
of the Ramadan fasting referred to as eidil-fitri.
While making the announcement, Abubakar Magaji, the
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior congratulated the Nigerian Muslims
on the successful completion of this year’s fasting period and also charged all
Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to extend the spiritual benefits of
Ramadan, which include love, peace and sacrifice for national development.
Magaji wished Nigerians a happy and joyous celebration and admonished
all Nigerians, both at home and abroad to use the occasion of the eidil-fitir
celebration to pray for peace and unity in the country.
He ended by calling on Nigerians to support the administration of President
Muhammadu Buhari in its determination and sustained efforts towards building a
peaceful, united and virile nation.
