Though
the veracity of his claim is yet to be established, Hashimu Suleiman, the man
who vowed to walk to Abuja from Lagos if Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd)
wins the March 28, 2015 presidential election made good his promise by arriving
at Zuba part of Abuja on April 14th 2015 after thirteen (13) day of
walks.
Suleiman
was welcomed to Abuja by a massive crowd of fans, well-wishers, curious
residents and journalists. He was mobbed by Okada riders, Keke Napep riders,
petty riders, children, young and old who trekked with him from Zuba through
Wuse II, Headquarters of All Progressive Congress (APC).
The
Kastina born Suleiman started his journey from Lagos on March 30, 2015 and
reached Abuja, April 14th 2015. He did 747 kilometre in thirteen
(13) days. According to Suleiman he had six canvasses worn-out as at when he
arrived in Abuja and was tired and doing the trekking with his canvass in his
hands. Among his interesting experience of the walk from Lagos to Abuja were
encounter with robbers and a royal welcome in Bida by the Emir of Suleija,
Sarkin Zazau.
Since
arriving in Abuja Suleiman has been receiving accolades, commendation and
material supports from well-wishers, public spirited individuals and
well-meaning Nigerians. For instance, he was welcomed into Abuja city by
massive crowd, police personnel and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). A philanthropist
in the city also checked him into the five star Abuja hotel, Nicon Luxury in
Area II.
Though
he was received by the duo of Alhaji Modibo Abdullah and Alhaji A.A.Mai-Agogo,
the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) equally promised to meet Seleiman.
