S Club 7 star, Rachel Stevens,
has found herself under fire after she was spotted leaving her two young
children alone in the car while she popped to the shops. According
to onlookers, four-year-old Amelie and eighteen-month-old Minnie
Blossom, were locked in the car on a street in North London for around
ten minutes in the afternoon.
One
witness told The Mirror: “At first I didn’t realise they were in the
car on their own or how young one of them was but when I did it was
quite shocking. “I suppose I think about the worst-case scenario but what if they took off the handbrake or managed to get out of the car? “Or if someone managed to get in?”
A
sentiment that parenting author, Tanith Carey, agrees with, telling the
newspaper: “It would have felt like a very heavy responsibility for
Amelie to be left in charge of her little sister. “Ten minutes –
the time witnesses say Rachel was away – may feel like the blink of an
eye to a grown-up but to child of Amelie’s age, it would have felt much
longer.
“According to official NPSCC guidance, babies, toddlers and very young children should never be left alone.” Fans
have also slammed the 37-year-old for leaving her children, with one
commenting: “It’s never okay - not with little ones”, and another
adding: “It’s dangerous and not worth it.” Rachel has not yet commented on the backlash.
