As
earlier counseled some weeks back on the need for caution and maturity among members of Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) across Nigeria in the face of the crisis instigated by
the woeful performance of the party in the just concluded 2015 general elections,
Senate President, David Mark on Wednesday May 6, 2015 warned of impending disaster and
the likelihood of PDP going into self-disintegration if its members across the
country did not change from their blaming game and rancour.
Mark
handed-down his concerns for the future of the part while playing host to Senator
Ike Ekweremadu led Post Election Review Committee in his office at the Green
Chambers of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. The high profile fact
finding committee was set up by the National Working Committee (NWP), the
highest decision-making body of the PDP to critically look into the individual
and collective mistakes that led to the worst general elections outing in the
history of the party with a view to reposition it and possibly return the party
to supremacy and dominance it has enjoyed for 16years by 2019.
The
two-term Senate President called for understanding, maturity and forgiveness on
the part of all aggrieved members in the effort to return the party to its past
glory. Mark said:
The PDP is already hemorrhaging,
unless we halt the bleeding and finds the necessary therapy, we may be heading
for the final burial of the party. The party is already in a comatose status
and we should do all we can to resuscitate the party rather than this
unnecessary rancour and bulk passing. The emerging factions are absolutely
unnecessary.
The combatants must sheathe their
swords and embrace dialogue. My appeal is that we should not do anything
further that would damage the already fragmented house. Everybody should come
together and rebuild the party. We have gotten enough bruises. We
need not inflict further pains on ourselves, with continuous bickering. Enough
of this blame-game. I believe a useful lesson has been learnt from the PDP
electoral misfortune. As for me, it is time to put on our thinking caps
and chart a new course.
